The Future Is Worth Fighting For

"Serenity" Poster Prize Drawing

Autographed by Joss Whedon

Our own Suzie Siegel sponsored this special prize drawing that was completed on March 1, 2008.

Background: I enjoyed some science fiction before "Serenity." I loved the three middle "Star Treks," and I joined the campaign to bring back "Farscape." After my lung surgery in August 2005, I watched "Battlestar Galactica" that night. When I came home from the hospital, a friend said he'd come over and help only if I agreed to watch "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." I was hooked.
In the auction for a dinner with Joss Whedon, creator of "Buffy," "Angel," "Firefly" and "Serenity," I won a "Serenity" poster signed by Joss. I unrolled it lovingly, showed it to all my Joss-loving friends, and then realized that the poster could continue to do good.
Some members of Whedonesque.com wanted a more democratic way to win goodies. I checked the state laws of Florida, where I live, and this drawing conforms, to the best of my knowledge.
I'm thrilled that Joss signed this poster for an auction supporting Equality Now. Since I already gave it a big check, however, I'd like the poster to now do its magic for people with leiomyosarcoma.
Think of us as inhabiting the outer planets of the cancer 'verse. Many of us, including me, have stage 4 LMS. Some of us don't expect to survive this fight (although that's not Plan A). But we think: "The future is worth fighting for." We have lost friends. Few people know our world exists. We see millions go to more common cancers, while we go begging. With that said, let the begging begin!

Thank you to all our donors!
