After a Great Accomplishment

Friends,
Thanks for everyone's support! We have already exceeded last years goal and the checks and online donations continue to pour in! As promised here are the results of yesterdays run. I ran an official time of 3hrs 8mins 55sec., which is a 7:12/mile pace. The weather was perfect and the spectators where awesome as usual. Our friend Lance Armstrong managed to meet his goal breaking the 3hr mark (I'll catch him next year!).
Also: There is a good chance that The Star-Ledger will be running an article about Dawn and I this week.
Thanks again for everyone's support and sponsorship of the marathon for Dawn & LMS Research.
Thanks,
John

Before the Race
On November 5, 2006, I will be running the NY Marathon in support of my
close friend Dawn Peragallo who has Leiomyosarcoma which is a rare form of cancer.
LMS affects about four people in every million. Because of its rarity,
few doctors know how to treat it and it attracts little research.
Presently there is no cure, only remission if it can be attained, and this rare cancer can reappear anywhere at any time.
This will be my second year running NYC for Dawn. For those that supported
me last year I'm pleased to say we raised over $2000. This year I will be
running in the company of Lance Armstrong. As you probably know Lance has
done some amazing things professionally as an athlete and personally as
cancer survivor raising awareness and money for cancer research. Lance
Armstrong has been an inspiration to both Dawn and me for several reasons.
Although I wish I had the notoriety to raise the same level of support Lance
has been able to achieve, I realize our personal goals can be achieved and
that small contributions can make a difference. I have learned through Dawn
and her battle with LMS that her endurance and conditioning for her fight
for life far exceeds anything I can imagine. It is through her struggle that
individually we have to do what we can do to help. For those of you who
would like to join this fight for Dawn and others with LMS please take one
minute to read our story.
Here is the reason why I'm running for Dawn and LMS research:
Three days before running the Boston Marathon in 2004 I received a group
email (details of her fight) from Dawn who indicated she would be in Boston
for an experimental treatment. I told her to look for me in the crowd of 20K
runners. She responded and said she would look for me w/ the Kenyan's. On marathon
day I knew she/ family would attempt to see the marathon if they were still in town.
I had no idea where they would be... so not much hope of seeing Dawn. It's not easy
to spot or be spotted in a Marathon. I didn't even see my brother who was at the race
stationed with a sign at two specific spots on the route. Dawn and her family
found a spot at the 25 mile mark. Dawn somehow spotted me and started yelling "Go John!",
but I didn't respond. I was running close to a guy for 15 or more miles who had "John"
on his shirt and the spectators were yelling "Go John, Go!" for a good portion of the race.
I stayed with him because the encouragement was good, but it may be why I didn't react to
"Go John!" until Dawn's husband, Jeff, let loose with my full name. I turned and like an
angel, I only saw Dawn. Somehow Dawn found inspiration in me and others
dedicated to running the marathon. She however is my inspiration and the
reason why this year I'm running for her and the LMS cause. I plan on
raising as much money or support as possible.
Please sponsor me in support for Dawn and LMS research. All money raised
goes to research of this disease. All donations are tax deductible. Please
make checks payable to: LMSarcoma Direct Research (or) LMSdr
Thank you!
